Sting Speaks Out - Retirement Rumors, Recent Injury, More

Sting was on 740 The Game in Orlando, FL this morning and spoke about his recent injury and more. Here are the highlights…

On Dixie Carter Saying This Will Be His Last Year In Wrestling: "No, I don't think so. She's listening to what I'm saying to her. I'm saying every year this will probably be the last year and part of it was in the beginning it was kind of like a project. I wanted to see TNA Impact, I wanted to see it succeed like we did with WCW. I hated that being the second rate or second class citizen to the WWF all those years until we launched Nitro and like I said before, everything was history - we became the number one. This has the same feel and I want to be a part of something a little bit like that and I've see us … we've gone from being at the fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee period to being in 120 countries worldwide now and the interest in other countries is enormous."


On His Recent Injury: "Yeah, I tore something. I went to make a move in the ring and I tore something on the bottom of my right foot and I think 'oh no I hope it's not the Achilles' tendon'. If it is, then I'm done. Wrestling is officially over with. And that night, I said a few words to the crowd in London and that was part of it. I said I don't know if I'll be back. I don't know what this injury is. I'm hoping it's not serious. The move I was moving around on it, limping around, I could tell … I didn't think it was the Achilles' tendon. Then I thought there's the fascia down there and maybe I just tore the fascia. And that's exactly what I did. I tore the fascia off."


How Long Will He Be Out?: "Well the doctors say 4-6 weeks but it's like I'm just going to stay off of it, take care of it and be back in the ring a week from this Sunday."


Does He Agree with Kurt Angle That 2011 Was a Subpar year For TNA?: "No, I really don't. I don't think it was a subpar year. I think a lot of the young guys have been elevated, guys like James Storm, Bobby Roode. These guys are now making a name for themselves. They're elevating the company. Everything is moving up. We had a very successful trip to the UK. In my book, that was very successful. Again, getting back to the ratings that we have in other countries, Australia, New Zealand, all over Germany, all over the UK, incredible ratings. We've got stuff going on in India now. So, I just see growth. I don't see how it could be considered subpar."

WWE Hall of Famer Gives Away Ring

2011 WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher appeared on the Wrestling Marks of Excellence radio show and says WWE waited too long to induct him and he should have been inducted decades ago. Abdullah also says he gave away his Hall of Fame ring to his brother. He said:


"I took my ring, my Hall of Fame ring, when they put it in my hand I gave it to my brother. I wouldn't wear it! I wouldn't wear it! 51 years Abdullah The Butcher has been in the business and drew people from all over the world, and they're going to hand me a ring 51 years later?"

Clueless about utilities

I was so clueless about setting up utilities when we first moved into our apartment. Luckily my friend directed me to some Curtis Texas Oncor electric information. She knew that I was a little lost in the process and was trying to help me out. It would have been really overwhelming without her. There are a good few providers and I really did not even know where to begin. Once she sent me some information, the decision was a lot easier and more manageable. I am so glad I moved to an area where I already knew a few people. This is my first apartment without my parents and I did not realize how difficult it was to handle all the bills and everything else. All I was thinking about was what colors I would paint the rooms and where I should get my furniture. It was not until the last week before I was going to move out that utilities crossed my mind. I sort of think it is lucky I remembered at all. Either way, I am glad I had someone around to keep me straight!

Backstage News on Vince McMahon's Strange Behavior

Numerous people within WWE have been saying for months now that Vince McMahon hasn't been acting himself backstage at TV tapings. The same was being said at Monday night's RAW in Kansas City. There is speculation within WWE that launching the Network and other things are taking their toll on him.

The Undertaker is solely advertised for the February 20 Raw Supershow in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The official website of the Target Center advertises: "The Phenom" The UNDERTAKER will be live in Minneapolis to confront "The Game" TRIPLE H for the first time in over a year since their last meeting at WrestleMania 27!"

More On The Rock's Return

A local TV ad in the Boston market that aired during RAW tonight advertised The Rock for the March 5th RAW. The Rock is already being advertised for the March 12th RAW in Cleveland and the March 26th RAW in Atlanta. As of now, Rock will be appearing at almost all RAW TV tapings in late February through March. He's set to face John Cena at WrestleMania 28 on April 1st.

Undertaker Vs. Triple H At WrestleMania

As seen on RAW this week, The Undertaker made his return to WWE. During the ending of the show, 'Taker's music hit just as Triple H was about to fire John Laurinaitis.

While it seemed that Triple H walked out on The Undertaker and the match at WrestleMania 28, the plan is still to do the match with The Streak on the line.


There are rumors that Shawn Michaels may be the special referee and a Career vs. Streak stipulation may be added but those aren't confirmed.

3 Major Rumored WrestleMania 28 Matches

As seen on RAW this week, WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix returned after being off TV for several weeks. She defended her title and squashed Eve Torres towards the end of RAW. For what it's worth, there have been rumors of a Beth Phoenix vs. Kharma match at WrestleMania 28 so this may be a way to build up Phoenix going into that match.

-- As we've been reporting in recent weeks, the plan is to do a Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk match at WrestleMania 28. They set the stages for that this week on RAW when Jericho attacked Punk during his match with Daniel Bryan. Jericho is in the Elimination Chamber match so there is no rush to do that match at the next PPV. They'll hold it off until 'Mania.

WWE's Latest Storyline Update On Zack Ryder

Following the "attack" from Kane at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view, WWE posted a storyline update on Zack Ryder. They say that Ryder was rushed to a nearby St. Louis trauma center. WWE's Dr. Chris Amann said the following:

"The most worrisome aspect of that move [the tombstone piledriver] is a compression force to the cervical spine that does have the potential to fracture several vertebrae and render serious injury."


"We've taken him to the hospital as a precautionary measure, at which point in time we'll get cervical spine X-rays and most likely a CAT scan to make sure that's there's been no significant damage."


Bob's Opinion: This guy was on one hell of a roll until this...what is the WWE thinking taking him out of action like this?

Evan Bourne Missed Backstage?

Sources within WWE say that Evan Bourne, who is currently serving a 60-day suspension for his second violation of WWE's Talent Wellness Program, is missed in the locker room and in the ring. Many people within the company hope he is able to bounce back from his recent troubles and achieve success again. Others believe he is done with the company.


Bob's Opinion: I am hoping that he learned his lesson and stops his out of the ring childish behavior

My Idea of a Marathon

I plan on spending all Sunday watching Anthony Bourdain No Reservations on the Travel Channel I have recorded on my new DVR I after checking out TV By Direct at TV By Direct. I adore this show and the host is just great. A lot of my friends find him arrogant or smug, but I find him to be intelligent and humorous. He travels all over the world exploring exotic cuisine. The show focuses on the dishes that generations of locals have perfected. It’s never about the tourists beaten path, but the culture and the people who make up each and every country. After browsing my recorded list, I see that I have one episode from Brazil. My family and I are traveling to Brazil in a month and I have intention of indulging myself on the cuisine, culture and tropical paradise. Maybe I will learn of a few places or dishes I must visit or try while I’m there. I certainly want to pick up how to travel like a local and not like a tourist! I think Anthony Bourdain No Reservations offers valuable lessons on how to do just that. You live a charmed sort of life Mr. Bourdain!

Update On Triple H's Return To RAW

Triple H is also being advertised for the March 12th RAW Supershow from Cleveland, the same show that The Rock is scheduled for. Triple H will likely be appearing on RAW regularly until WrestleMania beginning next week for the John Laurinaitis angle.


As noted before, Triple H vs. The Undertaker is tentatively scheduled for WrestleMania.

Hulk Hogan Says He Almost Joined Metallica

Hulk Hogan claims he almost joined an early version of Metallica and that he used to be good friends with drummer Lars Ulrich during his days as a session musician.

"I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler," he said. "I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days but it didn't work out."


He added that he was a big fan of The Stone Roses and he used to play them during his workout sessions. He added, "I love the Stone Roses. They're getting back together, right? That's cool man. I used to work out to some of their songs."


Finally, he mentioned the band Kasabian and said, "I heard about these guys. They have made a show about UK wrestling in the '80s, called 'Walk Like A Panther'. I know Rollerball Rocco, he's in it. He's my guy. I'll be his tag partner and sort them out for trashing hotel rooms under my name."

There is said to be a major twist planned for the 30-man Royal Rumble match this year, based on the announced idea that every Superstar is eligible to be in the Rumble. This angle was also done to set up at least one planned storyline.

People within TNA have been heavily praising Jeff Hardy in the sense that he's been clear-headed 100% of the time since returning and while he isn't the same in the ring due to injuries, it's like he is a different person.

It was reported a few weeks back that Ric Flair and the TNA crew watched the Four Horsemen WWE Hall of Fame vignette on RAW backstage at the Impact Wrestling tapings that night.


Triple H actually called Flair that day to tell him about the Horsemen induction but the TNA tapings were already over by the time the video aired on RAW. Flair was at a bar with some of the TNA crew watching the LSU vs. Alabama game when John Laurinaitis texted him to tell him when it would be airing. Flair was in tears as he watched the video with his co-workers. Flair was telling people how happy he was for the other Horsemen and vowed to be in attendance but noted that he knew he would hear something from TNA management about it.

Evan Bourne Screws Himself Over

Evan Bourne will be able to return to WWE TV on the March 19th RAW Supershow. Since Bourne is not going to be a major part of WrestleMania 28, he likely won't return until after that. It's still possible that Bourne may get a WrestleMania dark match spot but with his second suspension he has cost himself the two biggest paydays of the year – Royal Rumble and WrestleMania.
