Participating in the Neighborhood Christmas Light Display and Competition

Authored by Rickey Combs

The neighborhood I live in is putting on a special Christmas light display this year and our family was really excited to participate. There was even a small and friendly competition that was held on the first weekend to award prizes to the top three houses. The Saturday before the lights were all turned on, my daughter and I spent the whole day putting up lights, setting up decorations, and testing our display.

On the night of the lighting ceremony and competition, we had a big potluck dinner with two of our neighbors at our house. We all laughed together throughout dinner and talked about which house we thought would win. We had worked pretty hard on our display, but there were some others that were already looking bigger and better before the lights were even turned on.

When it was time for the ceremony, everybody bundled up and went outside. We set our
Adt home alarmand brought out some blankets to sit on the porch with. Then, everyone gathered outside as several neighbors officiated over the lights switching on. Everyone was excited when the lights all came on, because it was the first time our neighborhood has all participated in Christmas decorations. The judges spent time deliberating, and eventually awarded all of the prizes, with our next door neighbors even taking second place!
